In zwei Wochen sind Wahlen und diese Woche habe ich bei Smartvote mal geschaut wie es für mich aussieht.

Dennis' Politische Orientierung 2011

Bin dieses Jahr der GLP beigetreten und nachdem ich die Fragen beantwortet hatte stellte sich raus das diese Entscheidung genau richtig war . 10/15 Leute auf meiner Liste sind Grünliberal. Der populistische Schwachsinn, der von Links und Rechts kommt hat keine Zukunft im 21. Jahrhundert. Mögen die Wahlen die vorwärtsdenkende, weltoffene Mitte stärken.

Reinstalling GRUB after a Windows installation

After installing a Windows System on a System where you already had Linux installed before Windows overwrites the GRUB boot loader. You can no longer choose which system you want to boot at startup. To reinstall GRUB I did the following:

Restart the system from a Linux Live CD (which one is not that important), get a terminal and mount the installed Linux partition you can no longer boot (in my case /dev/sda1):

sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt

Mount /dev and /proc into that filesystem:

sudo mount -o bind /dev /mnt/dev sudo mount -o bind /proc /mnt/proc

chroot into this system:

sudo chroot /mnt

And from there run grub-install:

sudo grub-install /dev/sda

Finish the session:

exit sudo umount /mnt/dev sudo umount /mnt/proc sudo umount /mnt sudo reboot

GRUB will now come up and you can boot into your old Linux system. You will have to create an entry for Windows in GRUB so you can later also choose to boot into Windows.

Wir haben heute Sonntag den 21. August 2011. Es ist 13:41:38. Seit sechs Stunden bin ich am lernen, und das tue ich auch noch für den Rest des Tages. Seit vier Wochen war das jeden Tag so. Seit zwei Semestern studiere ich an der ETH und in einer Woche werde ich meine Basisprüfung überstanden haben. Klingt cool, ist es natürlich auch.

Was weniger cool ist: Draussen herrschen gerade 30 Grad, Sonnenschein, “Grand-Beau”. Alle meine Freunde plantschen gerade irgendwo in dieser Welt in einem Pool mit hübschen Mädchen in Bikinis. Nur ich nicht, ich bin hier in meinem Zimmer. Es ist dunkel. Die Storen habe ich um 11 Uhr runtergelassen.

Aber: Obwohl ich hier gerade dahinschmelze und nicht – wie alle andern – in der Badi an einem Eis lutsche, obwohl alle ihre Prüfungen schon längst durch haben und nur wir noch immer mitten drin stecken, und obwohl in unserem Studiengang 10 mal mehr Männer als Frauen in den Vorlesungen sassen, muss ich sagen: I’M AN ENGINEERING STUDENT, AND I’M PROUD OF IT!

Jawohl, und jetzt gib mir dein Eis!

GIT: First push to an empty repository

If you try to push something to an empty git repository for the first time there’s always this error:

No refs in common and none specified; doing nothing. Perhaps you should specify a branch such as 'master'. fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly error: failed to push some refs ...

That happens when you create an empty git repository (“git init –bare –shared“), clone it and add something for the first time.

For this not to happen you simply have to use the following after the first commit:

git push origin head
I always forget that myself and got annoyed a few times in the past because I don’t use git so often. Might help someone else.

Why does HEARBREAK FUCK WITH OUR LIVES so much? It STOPS everything else!? It’s not reasonable! It doesn’t even biologically make sense. Of course it does make sense for a species that has to look after it’s offspring for at least 12 years after they are born to have males and females stay together. Of course there must be some REAAALY BAD FEELING if you leave your partner or if you are left. But why isn’t our brain able to just CUT THE BULLSHIT when even the blind can see that there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY that there will be a chance to get the girl back anytime soon. Why doesn’t it FUCKING STOP even if it knows that there is another guy with whom she is perfectly happy?

Somebody explain this to me, please!!! It feels like it’s destroying my fucking life.

DJ Scene’s 2080s

I’m really enjoying DJ Scene’s 2080s Mix. The eighties were loaded to the top with great hits and it’s really refreshening to hear a mix like this on these old school beats sometime. I’m 1989er and there are tons of hot songs which (even) I know and really like.

Concerning tons: I’m really wondering how big DJ Scene’s iTunes Library must be. I saw him playing HipHop, House, Dubstep, from 2011 back to the seventies and everything between. Hits from all over the place. And we’re not even talking about all the acapellas and instrumentals yet. How the hell do you manage a collection like that so you have the right record available at the right time?

This guy is definitely my biggest influence at the moment.
